In the desert of Morocco, children gather at rural schools like this one in Merzouga from the villages and independent farms nearby. They study together in all age groups and grade levels in a one-room schoolhouse where classes are lead by a single teacher, not unlike schools in the Old West. Both boys and girls will continue going to school as long as their families can afford to have them there, as opposed to helping out at home. Schoolchildren don’t attend class every day of the week, so younger children will go on certain days, and older children on the opposite days.
