Travel from Marrakech via the highest road in Morocco, the Tizi-n-Tichka pass, on our way to the major crossroads city of the south, Ouarzazate. The ruins of the palace of the former warlord, the Pasha Glaoui, can still be seen here. The next day, rise and head to the last town before civilization gives way to desert, Zagora, to prepare to spend the rest of the day exploring the desert by camel. That night is spent in a Bedouin tent beneath the Saharan sky, and in the morning, you’ll return to the world once again in the town of M’hamid. Travel to Talaouine, the saffron capital of Morocco, and view demonstrations on harvesting and producing the ‘king of spices’ before turning in for the night. Arise the next morning and travel through the Tizi-n-Test pass, sister to the Tizi-n-Tichka, before stopping for rest and refreshment at the roadside village of Tin Mal. Make one more afternoon stop in the quintessential Berber village of Asni before returning to Marrakech.
